Stone Curves

READERS' PICK: This long, long winding road is only the better for the handiwork of Third Hand Art, a collaboration of a trio of artists who came out of Bicas: Kim Young, Pasqualina Azzarello and Christine Devine. Eric Cooper contributed the metalwork flowers. To accommodate every little wish of the crafty Tucson Mall developers years ago, the city obliterated the houses around here and realigned Stone Avenue into a giant curve that bends right into--surprise!--the west entrance of the mall. What the neighborhood got in exchange was the tantalizing painted sealife mural that curves a long, long way along the sound barrier wall. And it's changing day to day, too: Each time we cruise by it (oh, all right, sometimes we do break down and go to the mall) we see new things in it.
