Interstellar Light Applications' Moonlight Collector
Out in the desert west of Tucson, Richard and Monica Chapin, with the help of optical scientists and engineers, are building a Moonlight Collector, a parabolic screen of 84 mirrors that can be tightly focused to project concentrated moonbeams. Their Web site calls for research into the effects of concentrated moonlight on living systems. Is it sophisticated science? Is it high hokum? Decide for yourself. Once a month, by reservation only, the Chapins invite you out to stand for a few minutes in the concentrated moonbeam. At best, it may cure cancer. If nothing else, it's a sublime experience to bask in a brilliant beam of strong blue moonlight, listening to the serenade of coyotes.
