Started in 2003 by Tucsonan Deron Beal, Freecycle is an online network that connects people to used stuff that would otherwise go to the landfill. It started as an e-mail list among a handful of friends, and grew exponentially to more than 85 countries with millions of members. Freecycle keeps more than 500 tons of stuff out of landfills every day, saves members millions of dollars a year, and promotes the sharing of resources in communities. Genius! If there's something you need, and your budget is tight (and whose isn't?), ask (for a companion for a grieving fish?), and you shall receive. If you want someone to get use from something you don't want (a poofy skirt to wear under a wedding dress?), post it, and they will come.
