John C. Scott & Emil Franzi

KTKT-AM 990

STAFF PICK: These twin curmudgeons of conversation keep Tucsonans informed about the workings, non-workings, double dealings, and strange bedfellows of local politics. Scott, who served in the Arizona State Legislature as a Democrat, is a Republican this week, although his politics are delightfully all over the place. He's a staunch supporter of the NRA, but at the same time is the city's most vocal opponent of the initiative to ban bilingual education in the state. Every day weekday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., Scott thrashes about, slamming the Dems on the City Council, shamelessly boosting his own picks for various elective offices, and all the while hawking an endless supply of goods and services. Franzi is the insider's insider. Never elected to anything because he's never run for anything, he's the old-school, backroom wheeler-dealer. He knows all and usually tells all. On four days a week from 1 to 2 p.m. (he's preempted on Thursdays by a restaurant show), he offers keen political insight along with the occasional wild-haired rant.
