Best Late-Night Eats

Readers' Pick: It's 4 a.m. and we're still seeing through and alcoholic induced haze. Food and caffeine are a necessity as one of us is catching a 7 a.m. flight to Chicago. "Open later than you think" is a lifesaver in such dire straits. Tater tots that are hot and crispy, eggs sunny side up served with sausage and piping hot coffee complete our order and hit the spot. The revitalizing powers of this early (way early) morning meal enabled us to get to the airport-showered and packed in just the nick of time.

Readers' Poll Runner-up: Kingfisher, 2564 E. Grant Road. John, Tim and Leroy will take care of you. Even during the Gem Show, when the place seems like it's in the middle of Manhattan, these guys remember you and treat you like you're dropping a thousand. Grilled-chilled shrimp are terrific to start with. Then try some ribs or a steak with King Fisher's mashed potatoes. Open late and freakin' great.
