Granted, mythological music lore posits that the dark, smoky nightclub-often with the requisite unknown fluid on the floor-is revered as the place to catch an up-and-coming alternative-rock act or the blues legend playing a series of small bar shows. But some of us are getting to be old farts, and we like a comfy seat in a beautiful, modern theater with great sight lines, clean acoustics, a capacity of maybe 400 polite and sober souls, and no smoking. A handful of quality venues in the Old Pueblo fill this bill, but none as well as the terrific westside Berger, housed on the campus of ASDB. Favorite gigs at the Berger during the last couple of years include Patty Griffin and Fairport Convention.
