DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun

6300 N. Swan Road

Way back in the 1950s, famed Tucson artist Ted DeGrazia headed for the hills—in this case, the mostly undeveloped Catalina Foothills. With adobe bricks and natural materials such as saguaro ribs, he built a chapel, a house and a little gallery where he began showing his work. In subsequent years, DeGrazia's reputation grew and he eventually built the Gallery in the Sun—complete with an iron gate to pay homage to DeGrazia's origins in the mining town of Morenci—to showcase everything from his paintings to his sculptures. The Gallery in the Sun, with its sloping floors and gorgeous grounds, remains open today and is, in many ways, one of DeGrazia's finest works of art.
