Fuddruckers

READERS' PICK: Once again Fuddruckers has been voted as the best place to order a hamburger in Tucson, and we can see why. An enjoyable place to go with the family or friends, Fuddruckers has a good quality of service and a fun atmosphere. With prices even teenagers can afford, it's a great place to sit back and play video games or just admire the black-and-white photos of famous faces on the walls. The 1/3-pound burger, cooked to order, is the perfect size for the average appetite. For those needing a little extra fuel, the half-pounder should fit the bill. Once your order is up, proceed to the salad bar and build the burger of your dreams with everything from nacho cheese sauce to the old standby, raw onions. Plus, there's a bonus: If you order a kid's meal, a drink and cookie are included in the price! Fuddruckers is also great for birthdays because the birthday person gets a free brownie and ice cream.

STAFF PICK: Johnny Rockets, 825 E. University Blvd. Where can you find a place to eat a good hamburger in a fun atmosphere and at a budget-friendly price? One of the best is Johnny Rockets, at the corner of Euclid and University. The location is convenient to shopping, entertainment and site-seeing around the UA campus. Open for lunch and dinner, serving up all the favorite standbys of "All American" fare, this '50s throwback to the neighborhood streetcorner malt shop lures you in for a good time. The friendly servers dressed in pure white "soda jerk" uniforms hand out nickels for the jukebox. The delicious burgers here come wrapped in white paper and are served with the works. Add a side of crispy fries or onion rings along with a one-of-a-kind cherry coke, and you're guaranteed satisfaction.

STAFF PICK: Gus & Andy's, 2000 N. Oracle Road. The Lettas brothers have been at it for more than 50 years on the same corner that their dad staked out after leaving upstate New York. You'll step back in time, no doubt. Not a whole lot of political correctness here, either. But there is a terrific, thick burger served on a soft onion roll plain or with American or Swiss and served by real pros--they remember how you like it cooked and what condiments you'll need.

Of Mythic proportions: Wilbur's, in the Viscount Suites Hotel, 4855 E. Broadway Blvd. Wilbur's is a sports bar named for that too-nice UA mascot. Don't be put off. The namesake burger is a good one: high quality, thick and sporting cheese and mild Anaheim chile. The place can get a little noisy with pool and music; off hours are best.
