Despite being published in 2002,
Small Wonder won again, for the third year in a row (even though the ballot specifically said votes had to be for this ballot year; you rebel readers you!). It's not that there aren't any books by local authors that have been published since July of last year; perhaps it's just that Kingsolver is so loved by her local brethren that they frankly don't care if the book's not that new; time, after all, seems stretched out in the world of publishing.
Small Wonder is a collection of essays, some about serious subjects and some not so serious, but Kingsolver has a way with words that keeps her readers hooked, year after year after year.
Runner up:
2. J.A. Jance (various titles)
