Blue skies dotted with fluffy white clouds, the Catalinas rising from the desert floor, blooming prickly pear, neon signs flickering on at dusk, storefronts with piñatas hanging in front, a ribbon of asphalt winding to the horizon--now isn't that better? With all this, do we really need a sign to tell us that God loves us and has a plan for our lives? Or to remind us to drink milk? Or to warn pregnant women not to smoke? Here's to all the stretches of road without billboards, to all the spots that leave us alone to enjoy the view and think our own thoughts. Sometimes, the best is simply nothing at all.
