B-Sides: Meg Myers

BUBBLEGRUNGE

It's normal to feel a little bit torn about Meg Myers' music, and, truthfully, she might be feeling it too. Somehow melding distorted grunge guitar with poppy hooks and her lovely voice is working for her, but I can't help but wonder if combining pop with grunge is the sort of thing that'd make Kurt Cobain turn in his grave. I guess attitude is what really matters here, and this up-and-coming star has been grinding away the past few years trying to realize her vision alongside co-writer and producer Doctor Rosen Rosen, so that trumps any questions that her pop proclivities might raise. Plus, it's not like Nirvana didn't have some catchy tunes.

Touring in support of her first full-length release, Sorry, Myers will be stopping into Club Congress (311 E. Congress St.) on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The doors open at 7 p.m. with Jarryd James hitting the stage first. Tickets are $18 at the door the day of the show or $16 in advance. You can find yours, along with more information, at www.hotelcongress.com. It is a 16 and over event.
