B-Sides: WAND

WAILING WAND

Touring in support of their September 2015 LP release, 1000 Days, WAND seems ripe for a gallery performance. Obvious Brit psych analogies exist, but, really, the band offers several unique and unusual tonal additions that push their sound past what you might expect and into a more odd and artful territory. Those fanciful moments, still, often devolve into jammy distorted guitar riffs full of moments that beg a head bang or two, only to shift back into acoustic guitar accompanied tunes that could garner allusions any number of early folk psych pioneers. Plus, like, they played with Ty Segall (who seems to be the modern lo-fi movement's Midas).

It's not as easy as all of that though, which you'll see when the band performs live in Tucson at Solar Culture Gallery (31 E. Toole Ave.) on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Joining the L.A.-based group are locals Mute Swan, Wight Lhite and Ryan Chavira, with the whole shebang kicking off at 7 p.m. The show is $5 at the door and it is an all ages event.
