B-Sides: Ryan Chavira

AMBIENT ARRIVAL

Although local musician Ryan Chavira is known for getting his pop punk kicks as a member of Tucson's fabulously coordinated quartet Prom Body, he's also drawing attention with his ambient/noise solo project. Textural, moody and mellow, Chavira offers up something completely different under his own name. On Thursday, Aug. 13, he'll be playing at The Flycatcher (340 E. Sixth St.) in support of a very limited run cassette featuring recordings Chavira made in Chicago, as well as here in Tucson. The release is the first from Chavira's new tape label, Leisure Hive, which plans to put out cassettes from other experimental locals like JRM, AZ77 and Hikikomori in the future.

You can pick up the first Leisure Hive release and see Chavira live beginning at 9 p.m. Jeff Lownsbury (Katterwaul) will get things started with his new band CIA Style, as well as Mother Orbis and Crab Legz: Side 2 Side Fantasy featuring Ben Sol Schneider and Dimitri Manos of Golden Boots. The show is free and it is a 21 and over event.
