It's been a while since OHIOAN has played a show in Tucson, and while this nomadic musical experiment has seen frontman O Ryne Warner in many different landscapes, his upcoming release Empty/Every Mt. aims to showcase the feeling of the Sonoran desert. Juxtaposed with twangy Appalachian Americana (Warner grew up near coal country), the new album shifts from intense and aggressive rock-country tunes full of finger-plucked goodness to sweet folksy songs decorated with harmonies and slide guitar.
You're going to have to wait until Friday, May 13 to get your hands on a copy of the album, but you can peep some of the song's live at Club Congress (311 E. Congress St.) on Sunday, Feb. 28. For this performance, Warner will be joined by drummer Casey Hadland (Vox Urbana), bassist Sam Christopher (Wet Marble) and The Myrror's Connor Gallaher on guitar and pedal steel. The free show kicks off at 7 p.m. with ambient musician Ryan Chavira and local singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Karima Walker. It is a 21 and over event.
