B-sides: Lila Downs

VIVA VOCE

It's hard not to fall for Lila Downs. Over the last two decades, her use of indigenous languages and traditional Mexican musical styling keeps the rich history of her home country alive through music, while adding modern touches and her own perspective. However, it should also be noted that Downs has a voice both in terms of sound and message, shifting between an operatic songbird to a more forceful, soulful contralto. On the side, she devotes time to social activism and humanitarian issues in Oaxaca. See what I mean? Pretty darn admirable.

You won't want to miss Lila Downs live at the Fox Theatre (17 W. Congress St.) on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. and tickets range from $31 to $69, depending on where you sit. You can pick your seat and find more information at
