B-Sides: Jabee

OK IN TUCSON

Oklahoma City-based underground rapper Jabee has definitely caught the attention of some big names in the game. Touring with EL-P and Killer Mike on their Into the Wild Tour (before they were running the jewels) and getting signed to Tucson-by-way-of-L.A. rapper Murs' label (Label 316), Jabee has proven in a couple years that he's one to look out for. In 2014, he even won a regional Emmy for his work promoting the science museum with a song encouraging kids to think critically. Through his nostalgia-inducing samples, smooth back-up harmonies and beats that range from driving to ornamental, Jabee's songs have serve up a polished, more tranquil base, which allows his words to dominate the track.

Though his new album Black Future hasn't dropped quite yet, you can check Jabee out live at the Scratch Shack (245 W. Speedway Blvd.) on Friday, Jan. 29. Doors open at 8 p.m. with Chopps, Cash Lansky and more opening the show. Live art will be created courtesy of Dwelo with a beat set from OTM. Tickets are $5 at the door and it is a 16 and over event.
