Re: “Ducey, Garcia Clash Over Education, Border Security in First Televised Debate

I want to know where these dudes stand on charter schools... they are a big drain to tax dollars. We need increased oversight, higher standards, no for profit schools, and closign loopholes that allow operators to locker the money that should be going to kids.

Re: “'Classrooms First' Report. What It Means For Arizona Education

As a former (retired) head of the charter school oversight division of a large public school system outside of Arizona, I am appalled that tax dollars are given to privately run charter schools with almost NO OVERSIGHT OR ACCOUNTABILITY! The governor and legislature are guilty of using taxpayer dollars to line the pockets of charter school administrators without ensuring the money goes to students.

I am not anti-charter school; I provided oversight to some fabulous, well-run charter charter schools...and I also was responsible for closing ones that provided mind-blowingly poor education and/or defrauded the public in jaw-dropping ways you had to see to believe.

This state needs to be brought into the 21st century ... requiring cursive writing standards is not the way to prepare students for 21st century jobs. Clearly AZ's government "leaders" want to keep some of our children second class citizens while making their friends and the rich richer. Who says there is no caste system in this country?
