Re: “PACC Takes in Over 50 Animals in Hoarding Case

I was just at the mall and noticed the pet store there is selling dogs from breeders. There was a little terrier for sale that was barely 8 weeks old. The price was about $2,300. Why would anyone go that route when so many dogs need adopting??????

Re: “Let's Hear It For the Parkland Students. And Their Teachers. And Their School

Excellent article! with all the obstacles placed in the way of our district community schools, it is hard to keep in mind all the wonderfully dedicated professional educators and the rich, varied programs they offer. Our public district schools ARE succeeding (at least in areas with local funding support, i.e., wealthier communities), but just imagine what they could do if they ALL had our FULL support.

Re: “Dare to Say, 'Tax the Rich'

Smart thoughts David. I have been thinking along these same lines. But, I offer this back. Closing loopholes IS about increasing taxes on the wealthy and maybe a great first step? The second step is that government, more properly funded, can help improve people's lives. Then, the people would be more willing to trust government with more of their hard-earned dollars.

Re: “Ducey 'Next Step' Watch: Day 237—Talk Is Cheap Edition. Ducey's Funding-Lite, Destructive Education Proposals.

You are absolutely right David! Giving districts the authority to relax teacher certification will tempt some districts to follow the path of least resistance and hire non-professionals who will not contribute to increases in achievement. Teachers today are forced to deal with a multitude of harsh realities that are challenging even for certified, highly skilled and seasoned professionals Expecting those with no expertise to do the same is crazy!

Re: “Private School Vouchers Are Bad For Arizona. Discuss.

To More Ideology: One of the great things about district schools is they are led by locally elected governing boards. If you are unhappy with the way TUSD is run, you and others can work to elect new board members. That is an option you don't have in commercial (private and charter) schools. I would also offer that you should not judge every district school in Arizona by one example...whether that example is good or bad. Perhaps my choice of the word "WRONG" was unfortunate, but...just as I am probably not fully aware of what goes on in TUSD, you are not entirely well-informed about what is happening in district schools across the state.
