Re: “Koch Brothers Emerge (a Little) From the Shadows, Part 2: Connecting Some "Education Reform"/Privatization Dots

Just another way for the thieves in Phoenix to steal our taxes. I can't believe even rich parents are willing to hand over 10% right off the top! Plus the numerous examples like when Yarborough's wife gets close to 100% of the money that flows through their online charter school - our state legislators are the ones who REALLY should move back to Mexico - the way they steal from our state looks more like Mexico than America!

Re: “Guest Opinion

I think both Safier and McKenna protest too much. I'm simultaneously heartened that the there is some level of debate and awareness in such matters at the UA and horrified at the Koch's continuing attempts to influence universities, which is well documented by this time. I think if Safier stuck with the latter argument, there would be a solid story to cover here. But the point of journalism now being to sell papers/adverts, I notice TW likes to rouse the rabble in both directions...I assume TW pays better than the Sentinel, so you can't blame them for writing hot articles and staying employed I guess...

Re: “Kirkpatrick Wins EMILY's List Nod in Race Against U.S. Rep. McSally

I agree with the posters above. Kirkpatrick did not seem to do a great job of representing the interests of the majority citizens in CD1, the Dine (Navajo/Apache).

Much like Barber's long list of compromising on key social programs like reducing unemployment benefits after the Lehman crash in 2008, or drug testing for welfare recipients. His endorsement almost encourages me to look elsewhere for a candidate!

If CD2 is going to elect a democrat, they are going to have to offer something more than "McSally light" and Clinton-era policy, or democrats won't bother showing up to the polls as usual.

Which is all to say that following the lead of the democratic establishment has been a great recipe for electing republicans this decade. I hope they keep up their 'great' work...

Re: “Danehy

What Mr. Clinton and Ms. Lewinsky did was disgusting and inappropriate, but is was CONSENSUAL.

Re: “The Skinny

I strongly believe the city has been spending road funds appropriately, that they've done what they said, and I support them. This has been a good team...

I also strongly believe more sales tax isn't the answer. It's time our public servants started acting like citizens - my truck is 30 years old. I'm about to put it's 3rd new engine in it. When you're strapped for cash, you FIX things instead of acting like a $300k fire truck is as disposable as a dixie cup. Worried about reliability? Replace the whole engine next time instead of whatever breaks. I'm willing to bet a brand-new diesel engine is less than $20k. That's a factor of 10, and you essentially have a new truck...

Re: “Hell Yes!

Not on the backs of working people. If you can't pass a property tax, we don't need a sales tax.

Our property taxes are near the lowest, our sales taxes are near the highest. Much as I hate to say it, the teabaggers are right on this one...

Re: “Trouble in Republican City Over Voucher Expansion?

I was thinking @ this the other day. What really made America the greatest nation in history?

No ifs, ands, or buts. It's that simple to me. A literate+numerate populace is the single greatest advance in the history of our species. Forget fire.
