About 2,600 immigrant youth under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals programs had until July 30 to return their three-year work permit or faced getting it revoked. Well, 22 of them failed to do so and got terminated from DACA.
This recall only applied to some people who received a work permit after a court order by U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Hanen of Texas issued on Feb. 16, which temporarily blocked the expanded version of DACA (when President Obama first issued the program in 2012, the work permit had to be renewed every two years) and a relief program for parents of U.S. citizen or legal resident children, known as DAPA.
There are about 108,000 individuals who have a valid three-year work permit, who do not need to return them, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Those whose DACA was revoked should contact USCIS at 800-375-5283, the agency says.
