House Rockin' Blues Review

El Casino Ballroom will be a rockin' on Friday, Aug. 8, when blues legend Lazy Lester comes to town as part of KXCI 91.3 FM radio's House Rockin' Blues Review.

Lester previously performed at El Casino Ballroom in the 1980s as part of the original KXCI House Rockin' series. Now, at age 81, the Louisiana-born bluesman is still headlining shows in the United States and Europe.

Lester is best known for classics including "I Hear You Knockin'," "Sugar Coated Love" and "I'm a Lover Not a Fighter." He was also a studio musician, playing guitar or harmonica for other artists including the late Lightnin' Slim and Tabby Thomas. Lester was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.

Joining Lester will be duo Dave Riley and Bob Corritore. They are backed by Rhythm Room All-Stars made up of guitarist Chris James, bassist Patrick Rynn, guitarist Johnny Rapp and drummer Brian Fahey. Tucsonan Tom Walbank will also perform. Michael P. and the Blue Star Players open the show.

Tickets are $12 in advance general, $10 advance KXCI members and $15 at the door. Get tickets at KXCI (in person or online at kxci.org), Antigone Books, The Folk Shop and The Parish. Barbecue will be available for early arrivers. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m. El Casino is located at 437 E. 26th St.
