Let Freedom Sing

With budget cuts in schools and communities, arts are sometimes becoming the exception rather than the rule. Fortunately, there are organizations such as Arts Express, Inc. whose members believe the arts can change lives and build a better community. They create opportunities for children and adults to learn and experience the power of the arts.

Each year, Arts Express presents "Let Freedom Sing," a patriotic musical performance held on July 4. The event begins at 3 p.m., in front of Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd., where concertgoers will see a life-size cardboard replica of the airplane Spirit of St. Louis. During the concert, there will be a video reenactment of parachuting onto the beach at Normandy to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Musical selections performed by the Arts Express Choir and Orchestra include "The Star Spangled Banner", "God Bless the USA", "America the Beautiful" and other popular American music from several decades. Each branch of the military will be recognized during a Salute to the Armed Forces. Big Band Express will perform, along with local pianist Arthur Migliazza.

Reserved seat tickets are available at 319-0400, online at arts-express.org/let-freedom-sing and at Gospel Supplies, 5611 E. Speedway Blvd. General seats are free, with a $10 suggested donation.
