Joseph Elias

As a sometime member of the Mission Creeps and Some Of Them Are Old, 27-year-old Joseph Elias is an in-demand drummer. A proud father to a 3-year-old son, Elias also plays all the instruments and sings for his solo recording project Ay Dios Mio, whose music can be found at He'll be playing the drums for Oddkinn, a Some Of Them Are Old spinoff fronted by his older brother, Lex, on Friday, April 11, at Solar Culture.

What was the first concert you attended?

Boyz II Men, with Brandy, when I was about 5, but my first concert by choice was Ozzfest 2000.

What are you listening to these days?

Broken Bells and Band of Horses. And a buddy just turned me on to A.M. by the Arctic Monkeys. However, April belongs to Fantomas.

What was the first album you owned?

I wanna guess TLC's CrazySexyCool—among other early '90s pop albums. The days of BMG made it easy for a kid to get some tapes.

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?

Wub-wub-wub-wuuuuub! Dubstep.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?

Defunct: either the Beatles or the Who (with Moon and Entwistle). Current: My Bloody Valentine and, no joke, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

I have no shame. My library on shuffle is pretty bipolar.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

"First Breath After Coma" by Explosions in the Sky or "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, depending on who attends.

What artist changed your life and how?

The Beatles, the Cure, Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine and the Who. All blew my mind and are responsible for how I am today.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Revolver by the Beatles or Electr-O-Pura by Yo La Tengo.
