Legendary civil
Walter Echo-Hawk will be making an appearance today at 6 p.m. in Room 164 of the
James E. Rogers College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd., and is free and open to the public.
Echo-Hawk has worked to protect the legal, political, property, cultural, and human rights of Indian tribes and Native peoples for over 40 years. Echo-Hawk is going to discuss his latest book "In the Light of Justice: The Rise of Human Rights in Native America & the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples."
During his career with NARF, Echo-Hawk litigated in many of the epic struggles and was instrumental in the passage of landmark laws, such as the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act in 1990 and the American Indian Religious Freedom Act amendments in 1994.
The event is sponsored by the UA law school's Indigenous Peoples Law & Policy Program. The book will be sale for $20 and there will be a signing after the talk.
