It Came From Outer Space: Calexico's New Video for "Splitter"

Calexico brings in flying saucers for the music video for "Splitter," the first single from the new CD, Algiers, which drops on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The video is directed by Paloma Zapata, a Spanish filmmaker who is a friend of Jairo Zavala of Depedro.

"I love her music videos and her work," Burns says. "She does a lot of very cinematic-looking videos. We thought it might be nice to have something different. There’s no way we’re going to go to Spain, we’re busy here. So she made it without us, and it’s kind of playing homage to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It’s got flying saucers in there and it’s got these three different characters, like in the song, who are being pulled by something. To leave their lives in search of something better."

Algiers is streaming on Facebook here if you want to give a listen. And the touring version of Calexico will be stopping by KXCI for an interview and a few songs this evening.
