Oro Valley has grown a lot in the nearly 40 years since it was first incorporated. Heck, it's even got a movie theater and two Wal-Marts.
But with the suburb of Tucson no longer just a bedroom community, town officials are wondering what its residents and business owners think about truck traffic on its streets.
That's the subject of a public meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Oro Valley Town Hall council chambers, 11000 N. La Canada Drive.
"Thirty years ago when restrictions were first put on our roads, it was a different community," said Craig Civalier, the town's engineer. "Now there's commercial (property) spread all over town. It's not a bedroom community anymore. We want to go out to the public, to all the stakeholders ... to get their input. Should we have truck routes?"
Civalier said the informal discussion will focus on arterial roads and major collector streets within town limits, but won't include Oracle Road, which is also State Highway 77 and therefore under the control of the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Any comments collected at the meeting will then be forwarded to Town Manager Greg Caton, who will then decide what (if any) recommendations will be made to the town council.
