Coming Soon at San Agustín
Mercado San Agustín, the marketplace at 100 S. Avenida del Convento, will soon be home to a Mediterranean-style restaurant. Agustín, the restaurant, is being designed in the style of a European bistro or brasserie, and is expected to open sometime this winter. Glen Stosius tells us the menu will focus on seafood and fresh, local produce, and that he and the other folks opening the restaurant are putting an emphasis on simplicity and comfort.
In related news, Mercado San Agustín is planning a food-truck festival for February, although details have yet to emerge. This is a great idea for a food event, and we'll be checking back in for more information.
A Taste of Fall
The Tucson Village Farm, an amazing little project at 4210 N. Campbell Ave. that teaches kids how to farm and cook with the food they grow, holds its second annual harvest festival on Saturday, Nov. 5. A Taste of Fall will feature tastings of nutritious foods; seedlings perfect for a winter garden; and an array of farm-related activities for the whole family. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and admission is free; www.tucsonvillagefarm.org.
Coming Soon: Playground
Kade Mislinski of Hub Restaurant and Ice Creamery is opening a multi-bar nightclub downtown. Playground, at the corner of Congress Street and Fifth Avenue, will offer patrons everything from a bar specializing in craft drinks to a rooftop area decorated with elements reminiscent of a tree house. Mislinski is also working up a menu of classed-up snack foods, including a bunch of strange popcorn flavors that sound quite good. The place will also have a patio along Congress Street when it opens around the end of the year.
Heaven on a Half-Shell
Kingfisher Bar and Grill at 2564 E. Grant Road holds its second annual Oysterfest on Saturday, Nov. 5. The event features a dozen kinds of oysters from spots on both coasts, as well as a selection of dishes like clam chowder, baked oysters and Guinness oyster stew. Oysters go for between $1 and $2.25 each, and there will be specials on beer and wine, too.
