Let's face it: Club Crawl® can often turn into a crowded melee, with the music overshadowed by the party atmosphere. That's why I've teamed up with the good folks at the Screening Room, at Sixth Avenue and Congress Street, to offer a sensible alternative, geared toward the connoisseur of the finest in local sounds.
First up, at 8 p.m., is the great ... me. The man maybe, the myth for sure, and certainly not a legend. Doofus or genius, you decide.
Then it's Billy Sedlmayr at 9 p.m., whose dark stylings show him to be a graduate of the school of life. His subdued approach is enticing, and he's been a local favorite for a long while.
Next, at 10 p.m. is Van Christian, another veteran, formerly of Naked Prey. You are going to hear some Dylan, some Townes, and maybe even a little Bowie thrown in. A fine songwriter and a heckuva funny guy.
Stefan George is on at 11 p.m. He's more from the folk and blues tradition, and has penned a plethora of classics.
At midnight, it's Andrew Collberg, a relative newcomer, but he'll prove to you that where singing and songwriting are concerned, he's an old soul.
All of this acoustic music takes place in a relaxed, seated environment. You could easily—and probably ought to—spend the entire evening here. Or, just get off your feet and take a break from the throngs. And, yes, you can still get a beer.
