This just in from ParkWise, the city of Tucson's parking arm, regarding the bus strike that is underway:
ParkWise announces an alternative for bus riders affected by the disruption of transportation services due to the strike by Sun Tran.
ParkWise is opening two parking lots to temporarily provide free parking to current bus pass holders (July or August passes only). The lots can hold up to 350 cars.
To accommodate those needing alternative transportation during the strike, ParkWise has opened the Catalina Lot, 419 W. Congress St. (SE corner of Interstate 10 and Congress), and a temporary lot at the SE corner of Stone Avenue and Sixth Street (near the underpass).
People who opt to use the free parking must clearly display their current Sun Tran bus pass on the driver’s side dashboard of their vehicle. Failure to openly display the pass could result in a citation.
“Part of the mission of ParkWise is to enhance alternate modes of transportation, so we feel it’s appropriate to give regular Sun Tran riders this option until a settlement has been reached,” says Chris Leighton, ParkWise Director.
The free parking option will be discontinued when Sun Tran bus service is restored.
