Noshing Around

Krispy Kreme Continued

A second area Krispy Kreme location opened Friday, Sept. 18, at 7805 N. Oracle Road, and there's word that another may be opening in the near future. I won't criticize this new wave of local Krispy Kremes—the doughnuts rock, even though they're now trucked in from Mesa—but let's remember to support our locally owned, independent doughnut shops, too.

Remembering Dinner

Many Mouths One Stomach—a local collective of artists, educators and community activists—is compiling a book of recipes honoring our deceased loved ones. Recipes can be submitted at Remembering Dinners; the next one takes place at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Sculpture Resource Center, 640 N. Stone Ave. You can also submit recipes by visiting and clicking on the plate icon. Call 791-2825 to reserve a spot at the next dinner or for more information.

Eastside Nimbus

The new Nimbus Bistro and Brewery at 6464 E. Tanque Verde Road will open no later than this weekend, said spokesman Dan Multhup. Expect Nimbus beers and about 20 others on tap, 133 bottled beers by craft breweries across the country, live music and a huge patio. The menu is a mix of favorites from the original Nimbus location on 44th Street, and new items chosen by Metro Restaurants executive chef Michael Brown. A small test brewery and a private tasting room have also been added. Other Nimbus locations are also being considered, but Multhup wouldn't elaborate further.

Monty and Helen Blankier—former owners of Monty's Bistro and Pizzeria, which was formerly Sabra Mediterranean Restaurant—have opened Ventana Mexican Kitchen at 6875 E. Sunrise Drive, No. 101. Monty Blankier said he and a couple of friends will provide live jazz on the patio, and that a liquor license is on its way. Visit for more info.

Noshing reported a few weeks ago that Kazoku Sushi would be opening in the old Monty's Bistro and Pizzeria location at 4210 E. Speedway Blvd., and it has. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday; and noon to 10 p.m., Saturday; 777-6249.

Seeking Vendors

Cat Mountain Station (2740 S. Kinney Road) seeks vendors of local products and organic produce for their farmers' market, which happens the second Saturday of each month. Call 578-8795 for more information.
