Noshing Around

Tork's Reopens

Tork's Café and Grocery (3502 E. Grant Road; 325-3737) has reopened after closing for several months while the owners did a little globetrotting. Tork's serves simple Middle Eastern fare (the falafel sandwich is especially notable), and the exotic scents from the market will have your mouth watering long before your order arrives. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Charitable Chocolate

Chocolate creations by Bluefin Seafood Bistro, Dakota Café, Carte Blanche Catering and others will be featured at the Rincon Rotary Club's decadent Taste of Chocolate fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 5, at the Doubletree Hotel (445 N. Alvernon Way). Attendees and a panel of lucky celebrity judges will sample each entry in the contest's five categories and vote to determine the winners. Proceeds benefit the Rincon Rotary scholarship program, Polio Plus and the Lawton Boy Scout Camp infirmary renovation. $25; $30 at the door. Call 403-8508, or e-mail for tickets or more info.

Grumpy's Jr.

Grumpy's Jr. Bar and Grill is slated to open early this month at 8235 N. Silverbell Road, says Lorrie Klump, who owns the place with husband Tim Klump. The location was formerly home to Monsoon's Grill—which only lasted several months—and the Dugout Bar and Grill before that. The Klumps own Grumpy's Grill (2960 W. Ina Road) and Ziggi's (3225 N. Swan Road) and are former owners of a Famous Sam's. As for the name: "You don't know my husband," quipped Lorrie Klump. "He's pretty grumpy." Hours will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily; 638-7295.

The Obamer

The Buffet Bar and Crock Pot (538 E. Ninth St.; 623-6811) is celebrating the new president with the "Obamer," a potent drink made from Sambuca liqueur and cherries soaked in Maker's Mark bourbon. The drink is severely intoxicating and can have a person speaking as poorly as former President George W. Bush in no time. Consider yourself warned.

Oro Valley's Angelina's (12152 N. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Suite 170) won first place for Non-Traditional Pizza in the Arizona Division of the International Pizza Expo 2009, held last month in Las Vegas. Chef Erich Chapman created the winning pizza using Kobe beef, black truffles, bacon, aged cheese and a black-sesame-and-parmesan crust. Congratulations!
