TUCSON FILM INDUSTRY SUMMIT
The Tucson Film Office is hosting a Tucson Film Industry Summit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 9, at the Temple of Music and Art Cabaret Theater, 330 S. Scott Ave. There will be a panel discussion on the current state of the film industry and what is being done to bring business to Tucson and Southern Arizona; the Tucson Film Office, Phoenix Film Office and the Arizona Film and Media Coalition will be represented. CINE MEXICO 2009
UA's Hanson Film Institute, the Consulado de Mexico en Tucson, the Tucson Film Office and Cinema Tropical are presenting Tucson Cine Mexico 2009 from March 26-29 and April 3 and 4. The festival's special guest will be producer Frida Torresblanco (Pan's Labyrinth); films screened will include award-winning features, documentaries and vintage science-fiction films. Titles include Lake Tahoe (2008 Berlin Film Festival prize winner), Silent Light (2007 Cannes Film Festival prize winner), a new 35-mm print of the sci-fi classic Santo vs. the Martian Invasion, and the Mexican box-office smash Rudo y Cursi. Screenings will take place at the Crossroads 6 Grand Cinemas and the Harkins Tucson Spectrum 18. Most general-admission tickets are $5, or $10 for Rudo y Cursi. 'COYOTE' DVD RELEASE
The Screening Room, 127 E. Congress St., is hosting the DVD release of the award-winning local film Coyote at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7. Former Tucsonans Devin Colvin (producer) and Brett Spackman (writer/editor) will be in attendance. VOICES OF OPPOSITION FILMS
Voices of Opposition runs a political/social film and lecture series at 7 p.m. on most Monday nights at the University of Arizona Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Auditorium, 1130 N. Mountain Ave. March 2: A Little Bit of So Much Truth (Un Poquito de Tanta Verdad) is a documentary with the behind-the-scenes story of the popular uprising in Oaxaca in 2006. March 9: Fatally Flawed is about the integrity of recent elections in Pima County; attorney Bill Risner will comment and answer questions. March 30: Fabled Enemies is a new film that attempts to debunk the official story of Sept. 11 and the war on terror. All events are free. DIRECTING WORKSHOP
Tucson's Reel Inspiration, the Tucson Film Office and ArtFare are hosting a directing workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22, with master directing instructor Mark Travis on "Working With Actors in Rehearsal, Staging and Performance." Travis is the author of The Director's Journey: The Creative Collaboration Between Directors, Writers and Actors and Directing Feature Films. ArtFare is located at 55 N. Sixth Ave.; the cost for pre-registered actors and directors is $70, or $80 at the door, with various discounts. Students with school ID get in for $40.
