Blogs. They're the thing to do these days, especially if you're an emotive teenager, a politically frustrated soccer mom or a wannabe critic.
They're also the thing to do these days for some newspapers -- and the Tucson Weekly now has its own blog. (You're looking at it.)
We're excited about the blog, for numerous reasons. For one thing, it gives us more of a daily presence; you can go to the blog for regular updates, insight and analysis. We're not just a weekly anymore.
Second, we're excited about the prospect of having a forum where we can say and show things that we could not -- due to space, time, etc. -- in the newspaper itself. For example, Jim Nintzel will get to blog on TV shows and movies, and James DiGiovanna will get to blog on politics. If we get a breaking-news scoop that can't wait for the print version, we can throw it on to the blog.
Third, we're excited about the fact that the blog can become a conversation, of sorts -- anybody can comment on any blog entry, instantaneously.
Finally, we're excited about what you'll think of the blog. We hope the cadre of writers who have tentatively agreed to blog -- including Nintzel, DiGiovanna, Saxon Burns, John Banks, Karyn Zoldan, Annie Holub, Curtis McCrary and me -- will be entertaining, insightful and informative. We hope you'll make our blog a regular part of your Internet surfing.
