Nine Questions

Shawn Foree works under the name Digital Leather, a sweaty one-man musical project (although live shows feature a full band). Foree describes Digital Leather thusly: "Too artsy for garage people, too punk for the artsy people, too electro for the punks, and too garage for the electros." After living in Phoenix for a couple of years, he's been back in Tucson a little more than a year. Foree frequently tours and, uh, wants you to know he has no girlfriend.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

Lollapalooza 3, 1993.

What CDs are in your changer right now?

I don't own a CD changer. Sometimes I use a DVD player to listen to music. My ex-girlfriend borrowed it recently, so I won't even have that small luxury for, like, ever. I hate asking someone to return something they've borrowed.

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?

I don't know. I have a few boxes of records, all Digital Leather stuff.

Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

Downloading stuff is scary. You never know if you're going to catch something.

What was the first album you owned?

Really, how am supposed to answer that? I don't remember. If I said anything else, it would be a lie.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

The final mixes of what I'm working on now. Then I could rest in peace!

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

I'm not embarrassed to expressly enjoy any music. That's why most of my friends hate me.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

There are a few, but the most current would probably be Jay Reatard. He helped me come to terms with a lot of stuff, such as: It's fun to be angry. And it's OK to pee in a living room sometimes. I admire him for shaping up and getting out of the rut that is the garage-rock sub-hipster scene.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

How about: No.
