Nine Questions

Mike Doughty (not to be confused with the poet and performer) is Tucson's real-life Incredible Hulk. During the day, he is known as "Mr. Doughty" to his English students at a local charter middle school. At night, he becomes a security manger/professional bouncer throughout Tucson's nightclub scene. What a perfect way to vent after dealing with smartass teenagers all day long!

What was the first concert you ever saw?

Nuclear Assault at a dive bar in Jersey City, N.J.

What CDs are in your changer right now?

Dimmu Borgir: progressive, satanic, Scandinavian death metal.

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?

More than 500 CDs and the original Broadway cast recording of Annie on vinyl.

Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

Legally; iTunes rocks.

What was the first album you owned?

Styx, Kilroy Was Here.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

John Cage, "4'33". " Nothing's more unbearable than awkward silence during a funeral.

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

Growing up 15 minutes from midtown Manhattan, you get exposed at an early age to Broadway musicals. I've seen Les Misérables twice, Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar twice, Phantom of the Opera twice, A Chorus Line twice, Avenue Q and The Lion King. I love Broadway musicals, and I'm straight.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

The Dead Kennedys, Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death. It focused my adolescent rebellion into something productive and meaningful. Now when I see squatter-punk junkies wearing DK T-shirts, it makes me sick.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Agnostic Front, Live at CBGB (1989). I was there.
