IFASA MEETING
The June meeting of the Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, June 2, at Access Tucson, 124 E. Broadway Blvd. The meeting will feature Will Stewart, director/producer of the sci-fi feature The Men Who Fell, who will discuss his experiences with foreign distribution. SUMMER FILMS AT THE FOX
The Fox Tucson Theatre will feature screenings of classic monster films this summer on Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., starting June 14 with Frankenstein. A Summer Movies for Kids series on Saturdays at 11 a.m. starts with Benji on June 21.The Fox and the UA Lunar and Planetary Laboratory are also presenting a day-long event to celebrate the landing of the Phoenix Mars Lander, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 28. It will include a variety of activities for children, a live video feed from Mars, and screenings of Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers at 11 a.m., and The Angry Red Planet at 7:30 p.m. All events are free, except the two screenings. General admission for all films is $8, or $6 for seniors, students and military personnel.

FINAL CUT PRO MEETING

DOS VATOS DOCUMENTARY
Local documentary filmmakers Eren Isabel McGinnis and Ari Luis Palos of Dos Vatos Productions were recently selected by WGBH in Boston to do a three-minute short with Tucson High School students who are opposed to a bill which seeks to outlaw Mexican-American studies at publicly funded schools. CREW AND CASTING CALLS
Tucson's VientoFuego Productions is looking for volunteer production-crew members for upcoming back-to-back independent feature films. Please send your resume to Ben Lopez by e-mail.VientoFuego is also still casting for Amor de Lejos (Love From Afar), an independent feature film that will be shot in Tucson and Southern Arizona. Filmmakers are currently looking for Spanish-speaking actors, age 18 to 35. The dark romantic comedy will be shot in June and July. THE LOFT AT CINEMA LA PLACITA
Tucson's weekly outdoor film screening offers classic films at 7:30 p.m., every Thursday night through October. The June schedule includes A Star Is Born (part of the "Shot in Tucson" series) on June 5, Forbidden Planet on June 12, Pillow Talk on June 19, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes on June 26. Chairs are available, but filmgoers are also welcome to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to La Placita Village, on the southwest corner of Broadway Boulevard and Church Avenue. There is no admission charge, but donations are encouraged.
CALL FOR FESTIVAL FILMS
The Fourth Annual Tucson Film and Music Festival continues to accept entries. Organizers are looking for features, shorts, documentaries and music videos with a music and/or Arizona/Southwestern focus or aspect. The festival runs Oct. 10-12. EVENTS AT THE LOFT
· Aren't You Even Gonna Kiss Me Goodbye?: Director William Richert and star Meredith Salenger will screen the 1986 film, which included River Phoenix's first starring role, at 7 p.m., Friday, May 30; regular admission prices.· Premiere of The Gene Generation: Local filmmaker Pearry Teo will present the Arizona premiere of his new sci-fi thriller at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 7. Star Bai Ling and producer Keith Collea will also be on hand; $10 general, $8 Loft members.
· 48 Hour Film Shootout screening: Local filmmakers recently wrote, shot and edited films in 48 hours; see their work and vote for the Audience Choice Award on Thursday, June 12, at 7 p.m.
· Scream-o-Rama: The Loft will screen gore and horror films from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., starting Friday, June 13. Actress Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead) will make an appearance. $12 advance; $15 day of; $10 for Loft members.
· Can't Stop the Serenity: The Loft screens Josh Whedon's films Serenity (7 p.m. ) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (10 p.m. ) on Saturday, June 21. There will be a costume contest, trivia and prizes, etc. $10 for Serenity only; $12 for the Serenity and Buffy double-feature; $5 for Buffy only.
· Essential Cinema screens Federico Fellini's La Strada at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 15, and 7 p.m., Monday, June 16. Essential Cinema screenings are free, but donations are encouraged.
