What was the first concert you ever saw?
AC/DC in about 1975. I was very young but went with my older siblings. Bon Scott and Angus Young were just amazing. I can't believe my parents let me go! My 7-year-old son, Cruz, now loves to listen to "It's a Long Way to the Top."
What CDs are in your changer right now?
Martha Wainwright, Martha Wainwright; Jolie Holland, Springtime Can Kill You; The Wailin' Jennys, Firecracker; Schoolhouse Rock. (I share my CD player with my son who's learning guitar.)
How many total albums do you own? (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?
Not too many. I'm not a collector. I listen to stuff until I want to share it with others.
Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?
Occasionally, legally. I prefer to support local music stores and musicians.
What was the first album you owned?
TNT by AC/DC (of course).
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
Calexico, "Panic Open String"; Archie Roach, "There Is a Garden/Reprise."
Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
Australian drinking songs. ("I love to have a beer with Duncan ...")
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
Janis Joplin. I was exposed to her at a young age through my older brothers and sisters. (I'm one of seven.) She was such a free spirit: so sad, yet defiant and triumphant.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Archie Roach, Jamu Dreaming. He woke me up!
