Nine Questions

Ryan Trayte moved to Tucson in 2000 to attend the University of Arizona, where he studied music and business. He put both to use working at Mike's Artist Management and Cal Productions before jumping to the Rialto Theatre in 2006, where he manages the box office, coordinates marketing and does all the design and artwork. "I'm recently and suddenly very domesticated: just got married and got a new puppy," he says. "Ask me about my dog! Seriously."

What was the first concert you ever saw?

Shame buries my first (hint: Grammy revoked!), so it's Jimmy Eat World at Boston's in Tempe, '99.

What CDs are in your changer right now?

Beck, The Information; John Vanderslice, Pixel Revolt; Jimmy Eat World, Chase This Light; Kanye West, Graduation; Iron and Wine, The Shepherd's Dog.

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?

In iTunes terms, about 10,500 songs.

Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

Yes, I do, recently legally ... (R.I.P. OiNK).

What was the first album you owned?

Peter Gabriel, So.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

Debussy, "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun." Studying this piece was a landmark in school and has changed how I listen to music.

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

I'm a big fan of mellow electronic music.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

Boards of Canada, for the profound experience of texture and layers in music. On the surface, it's wonderfully nostalgic; underneath, it's very mysterious and intriguing.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

My Bloody Valentine, Loveless. I listen to this record at least once a week. And will forever.
