Best Place to Buy Fresh Shrimp

Rodriguez Seafood/La Costa Brava

Let's face it: Most of the raw shrimp we buy here in the desert is pretty ghoulish. Often, the shrimp are limp and soft--never a good thing. Supposedly, that comes from being frozen and then defrosted. The flavor of these crustaceans is nonexistent as well. But the folks at Rodriguez Seafood offer a whole other kind of shrimp: It comes fresh from Guaymas, Mexico. The shrimp comes in three sizes and cost between $7 and $11 a pound. These babies actually taste like shrimp--sweet and succulent with a toothsome texture. You might want to call ahead to see if the shrimp is in. Depending on the day's catch, various fresh fish is also available.
