The Grant Road widening project has been held at bay, for now, but for a time, it imperiled this gem of a breakfast joint--and it probably will again. Eat there soon, and often, while you still have a chance; it could cost you as little as $2.25 for two eggs and home fries. You'll join a slice-of-life crowd--laborers, neighbors, businessmen in suits and ties--enjoying lightning-fast service and bottomless coffee cups. The ambience can only be described as functional, but there is charm in the wall décor. Not-quite-trompe-l'œil windows feature greeting-card-like curtains, potted plants, picture-perfect pastries, an adorable cat and other emblems of an idealized, country-kitchen setting.
