Noshing Around

New: Brush Fire BBQ

Ben Rine and Jared Wren have been cooking around town for more than 10 years. They met at the former Daniel's at St. Philip's Plaza, and they define their barbecue as Tucson-style, embedded with classic French technique. The menu, which can be viewed online, features create-your-own-salads, smoked meats, sandwiches and mouth-watering messy fries (topped with smoked meats). Everything is made from scratch at 2745 N. Campbell Ave.; 624-3223. As for the name, Rine says it surfaced during late-night brainstorming. Brush Fire is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

New: Armitage Wine Lounge and Café

The Scottsdale-based wine bar opened last month in La Encantada, at 2905 N. Skyline Drive, No. 168. Open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, the café doesn't stop serving food until 11:30 p.m., which could perk up Tucson's meager late-night dining scene. The menu consists of specialty bruschetta, panini, salads, cheese and desserts; 682-9740; armitagewine.com.

Tubac Hot Stuff

Chiles for fall is the theme of the Tubac Farmers' Market on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. Barrio de Tubac's Plaza de Anza will host vendors offering chile-related items such as fresh organic chiles, roasted chiles and hot salsa. Live music will be presented by the spicy Cool Breeze band, mixing Latin, African and Caribbean jazz. Find it all off Interstate 19, exit 34; head east on Frontage Road, and go north to Plaza de Anza; 398-1010.

Health-Conscious Holidays

Chef Albert DiIeso, executive chef at Splendido, a continuing-care retirement community in Oro Valley, has been serving the residents nutrition-conscious gourmet dishes. On Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m., DiIeso will be demonstrating holiday recipes at Sprouts Farmers Market, at 7665 N. Oracle Road. The presentation will blend healthy cooking with farm fresh produce. Seating is limited; call 297-5446 to reserve.
