Every Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., the wine-savvy staff at the Beverage House offers oenophile wannabes the opportunity to sample an assortment of four to five widely priced wines for a mere $2. Surprisingly, hordes of after-work drinkers and leisure retirees mingle through the aisles sipping and schmoozing. Usually, pizza is available for a little nosh. Bottles of the sampled wines may be purchased at a 20 percent discount. Some Fridays have specific regional themes--Argentina, Italy, Central California--while other times, the staff picks. Copious wine notes accompany every tasting, which should satisfy even the most particular wine snob.
