Sky Blue Wasabi

Brand new at 250 S. Craycroft Road, suite 100 (next to Risky Business), this table-service restaurant serves teppanyaki and sushi. For the uninitiated, teppanyaki is the style of cooking on huge, hot steel grill tables so your food is sliced, diced and cooked before your eyes, just like having your own personal iron chef. Sky Blue Wasabi is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 to 10 p.m. for dinner, and open weekends for dinner only; 256-9199.

Japanese Italian

We recently noshed around in Los Angeles, and the most memorable meal was in the little suburb of Lomita. We were the only non-Asians in Il Chianti, a hip Tokyo-Italian joint serving some of the best food we've tasted to date: arugula salad with bacon and pine nuts dressed in mystery miso vinaigrette, thin pizza with rosemary and sesame seeds, red-pepper pasta topped with a mound of black cod, espresso custard and champagne grape gelatin. A rustic Italian red wine and complimentary bread with caramelized onion confit rounded out the reasonably priced meal. While Sushi Ten does spaghetti with red sauce, it's just not the same. Is anyone cooking like this locally?

Kids Eat Free

Who wants to labor over Labor Day? Metro Restaurants has a special offer for kids under 12 to eat free at any of their nine restaurants. The only catch is they have to order off the kids' menu, which includes an entrée, drink and sundae. The deal runs Sept. 3-5.

Win a Pig Party

From Aug. 1 through Nov. 14, children are invited to either log onto or visit their local Chick-fil-A at the UA or Tucson Mall to enter the reading challenge contest. Once entered, they must read as many book as possible. The winner will receive a Pig Party at their local school hosted by Pig, the famous character from If You Give a Pig a Pancake.
