Noshing Around

Spice Girls

Jackie Brooks and Jennifer English will open their wholesale gourmet spice business to the public for the holiday season. From Saturday, Dec. 4, through Christmas, discover the exotic aromas of a Moroccan spice bazaar at Flavorbank. Pick up peppercorns from Brazil, Borneo and Madagascar; sea salts; chili peppers; sugars; sweet spices; and gift sets for your favorite cook. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, at 4101 S. Longfellow Ave.; 747-5431.

Likewise, I'm Sure

When the wacky-named Surly Wench Pub hires a chef named Dakota Likewise, somehow you know nothing ordinary will be on the menu. Likewise was formally trained at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, did an externship at Hyatt Regency Gainey Ranch and culled experience in the island and mountain resorts of Southwest Florida and Lake Tahoe. Starting Dec. 3, check out the sushi-inspired bar menu of tempura shrimp with lime-chipotle-honey-ginger sauce over cucumber salad, Cajun blackened ahi tuna with wasabi mayo, sweet potato fries, tiramisu and some surprises. Food is served from 5 p.m. to closing Tuesday through Saturday at 424 N. Fourth Ave.; 882-0009.

Knife-Wielding Experts

KUAT Cooks: Tucson Originals debuts from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. Watch Janos Wilder, Feast's Doug Levy, Coralie Satta-Williams of Ghini's French Café and El Charro Café's Carlotta Flores prepare special dishes. KUAT asked viewers for recipes accompanied by heartwarming stories; seven of the entrants will appear on the program to share anecdotes while their recipes are prepared in the studio. Selected recipes are published in a companion cookbook, which KUAT will offer as a thank-you gift in appreciation of viewer support.

Nostalgic Deal

Little Anthony's Diner recently initiated a 20 percent discount for seniors (60 and older) who dine weekdays between 3 and 6 p.m. Listen to music from the '40s and '50s while enjoying home-cooked food where fries with gravy and things even Elvis wouldn't eat are always in vogue; located at 7010 E. Broadway Blvd.; 296-0456.
