And in the process, everybody is turning into evil cretins.
OK, not everybody. But you must admit that the stresses of the holiday season--the financial strains, the prospect of hanging with relatives, the frustrating and never-ending quest for that perfect parking space--make many folks forget what this whole season is supposed to be about.
Trust me, I know. I spent five holiday seasons working at Toys "R" Us, and two in the employ of Sears. And I have separated two fighting soccer moms, losing their minds quarreling over a Power Ranger.
Enough said.
So, take a deep breath. Grab a cup of your favorite appropriate beverage. And read The Weekly (starting with D.A. Barber's excellent cover story on Vivian Juan-Saunders, the new Tohono O'odham head, Page 17). Then, refreshed, entertained and enlightened, face the holidays with kindness and appreciation for your fellow man.
