Noshing Around

The Female Nose Knows

Some say women have better instincts than men--but do they have better noses? Discover the truth with Elaine Honig of Honig Vineyards during a women-only wine-tasting seminar at the Tucson Culinary Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Omni Tucson Golf Resort and Spa. Call 622-0525 to make a reservation. Cost is $50. Benefits the Community Food Bank and Tucson Originals.

Go North

Sitting on a prime location with notable signage at La Encantada is North, a Fox Concept Restaurant, serving modern Italian cuisine in a semi-rustic industrial setting with an open kitchen. They have an interesting libation menu with the requisite wines, but also Italian beers, extensive martinis (including one with black vodka and bleu cheese-stuffed olives) and a cucumber-mint mojito (sounds like an alcoholic facial treatment). As a guest of North, I enjoyed the crisp calamari with baby arugula and grilled lemons, and grilled Ahi tuna with baby green vegetables. Open daily for lunch and dinner. 2995 E. Skyline Drive, 299-1600.

RA Sushi (Raw)

"It's more fun in the RA." Great tagline for the Scottsdale-owned but UA-educated resto dishing up sushi and Pacific Rim specialties in a lively modernista setting. Open daily for lunch and dinner at 2905 E. Skyline Drive.

What's on the Menu?

If it's up to the House of Representatives and the Senate, you may know more than you want to. Restaurant chains with more than 20 locations will have to label most menu items by listing calories, saturated and trans fat, carbohydrates and sodium. Possibly the more you know, the less you'll weigh. Will super sizes, enchilada plates, chicken-fried steak and the dessert menu go by the wayside?
