Best Response to Terrorism

The Human Flag

READERS' PICK: After terrorist attacks opened a heart-wrenching wound in America on September 11, 2001, the nation found many different ways to work its way through the grief. Kudos to the men and women dressed in the red, white and blue who came out to Tucson Electric Park one fall morning to form a human flag in the outfield. The resulting image was a simple gesture that resonated from sea to shining sea.

B-SIDE: Sex. If reports of a "9-11 baby boom" are to be believed, there were a lot of little ones recently born in the U.S.A. It seems that many of us responded to last September's terrorist attacks by making love, not war. We salute this spirit of hope and renewal among the erotic patriotic who, in their shock and grief, made beautiful music together in the face of tragedy.
