Club Congress

Historic, original Wild West building un-scrubbed and surely doomed to be gentrified any day now; hurry and meet its scene makers and local legends still gathered like walkng Westworld replicants.

    Will K Shilling says:

The historic Hotel Congress has the sort of vaulted ceilings and ornate arch doorways one expects of most of the American West's downtown culture centers. The difference her is Tucson has never really been gentrfied and transformed and scrubbed to its molecular soul before being embraced by the current youth and queer arts/bohemian generation. The scene of touring artists reuniting in the authentic booths and analog jukebox 45rpms, Merle Haggard and LInda Ronstadt and Townes Van Zandt haunt and, save the dead Townes specter, still populate occasionally and without the industry atmosphere of pressed out of town cologne, bizness cards and publicists' +1 printouts hanging near the bouncers card table set up by assistants and interns from the Bay Area, Seattle, San Diego.
