Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

I'm glad that the usual gang of idiots (not including Shirley Willis) in this comment thread are enjoying everything that their Orange Overlord is doing for them.

What good is all of that going to do any of you if the boys comparing their missiles decide to take action instead of just being all talk?

Let me answer it for you, because I know that you'll refuse to get it unless your Tangerine Tyrant isn't calling it fake news.

It will do you no good at all. Nuclear fallout isn't good for anything.

So keep on believing that things are just going to keep getting better and that you have nothing to be concerned with, that is, until reality smacks you upside your ignorant head. When the area you call home becomes a wasteland, make sure to thank PO(TU)S Trump for that as well.

Because you are aware that all the record breaking happening in the stock market can't fix a nuclear winter, right?

Re: “Danehy

Here's the tweet: "North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!" If you think he's succeeded with his "won't happen" because a NK nuke hasn't exploded in California you're to deep into the Trump tank to be objective. Its obvious what he meant-that NK won't get an ICBM. They have.

Re: “The Great Doobie Debate

The only positives I see in this (hard to see any) are 1) It may force Congress to get off its collective ass and fix it (it is bi-partisan), and 2) Federal officials at the state level generally do not have the manpower or resources to do these things without state and local law enforcement assistance.

That can easily be accomplished by governors, city and county officials, and county Sheriffs just saying no.

Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

Confident? Stronger? Next thing you know people will be standing up on their own 2 feet without any help from the Dems. People who don't need the gov't. to survive? The Dems will be hurling themselves off of rooftops.

Re: “Rich Rod Gets the Ax

Many male UA sports/football fans (at least the ones that don't already hate DickRod) are now reflexively disbelieving the accuser in this matter. This, of course, is a big part of the overall problem, and only helps to create a culture in which sexual assault and harassment are tolerated, or at the very least goes unpunished.

Let's be clear: Cases of false accusation of sexual harassment and sexual assault are rare. This case shows why. This woman had everything to lose, including her own job, her daughter's job, her daughter's tuition break, her own reputation and career, etc. She had no faith in the institution to address the matter in any meaningful way, and for good reason. Most big universities are run like corporations now, and the bottom line is what matters most. Big-time university athletic programs are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and universities often do whatever it takes to protect their brand and that huge income stream, including hushing up or even covering up crimes and misbehavior by their athletes, coaches, etc. Internal investigations such as the one conducted by the UA into this matter are usually a joke, just exercises in damage control and coverup. No wonder the woman refused to cooperate.

So rather than pick an internal fight she had no hope of winning, this woman tried to extricate herself from the toxic situation while maintaining her employment at UA, and got nowhere and no support. So she eventually left the university. Apparently she then was emboldened by the dam breaking on sexual assault and harassment lately and filed suit.

There are a couple of key things that must change going forward in order to solve this problem.

1. Men gotta stop acting like assholes!

2. When men inevitably do act like assholes, other men in positions of power must hold them accountable. It is not up to women to solve this problem, especially when it tends to be most rampant in situations where men wield a preponderance of power and women's recourse is quite limited (politics, big-time sports, corporations, Hollywood, etc.).

3. Re: this particular context, the culture of secrecy around big-time university athletics must end. It only serves to create an environment in which impunity is the order of the day, and it perpetuates all sorts of bad things, including sexual harassment and sexual assault. Alas, don't count on the mainstream media to help destroy that culture of secrecy. They're really just cheerleaders for the home team, and they long ago stopped doing anything that remotely resembles investigative journalism when it comes to UA sports coverage. They have no interest in breaking any story that would damage the university brand or the athletics gravy train, which pumps millions of dollars into their coffers as well.

Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

I just keep thinking that if we don't tell these guys they are never going to know it.

Then I ask myself why would they be against higher wages and lowering black unemployment? And it all comes back to me....You need a constituency to survive.

The Trump era will be known for causing people to stop the group think and actually reason things out for themselves. Ultimately it builds confidence and makes you stronger.

Cast off your inner wimp and join us. There's room for everybody.

Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

Amen Wayne, Amen.

Thanks for the post. Just the beginning of the Trump era. Taxation of economic growth is now lower than even the 1920s when Coolidge's economic growth was 37% as compared to Obama at 13%.

Your great report is just the beginning the speed of events is going to pick up dramatically. We could easily see an 8% growth quarter, the first since 1984.

I noticed a minute ago that the Wilshire Total Market Index just hit $28.4 trillion up from $22.5 trillion since the election.

Trump is now the $5.9 trillion man.

The total stock markets of Europe and China are only $8 trillion each after over 3000 years of civilization on each continent.

Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

Couldn't agree more Jhoop! Just look at the facts:

Fed Govt Cut 16,000 Jobs in '17... +196,000 in Manufacturing...

Food stamp recipients down 2 MILLION...

Add to that:

The UN is going to be held accountable for results.
International economies are now growing with us
401K accounts and investments are growing at record levels
Taxes have been cut across the board
Business strangling regulations have been relaxed
Tax revenues will actually increase
North Korea wants to join the world at the Winter Olympics
Iranian citizens are repudiating their terrorist supporting government
Home values are increasing
Employers are increasing wages to attract new employees
SS and Medicare contributions increase proportionately
Five US cities now have unemployment rates at or below 3%
15M illegals were not deported
Gay and Lesbian advances have not been reversed

The key to all of this is not to listen to what they say, but watch what they accomplish. We have not seen these levels of positive change in our lifetimes.

Let the good times roll!

Re: “Creature Feature

The Shape of Water is one of the best films I've seen in my 80 years, but Bob, you missed the sheer humanity of it. Besides Water-man (more fish than amphibian, with gills), the cast is led by a mute working class Latina and an African American woman, a (probably) gay artist, and a Red spy -- all, with Water-man, examples of The Other, the lesser beings, the deplorables. Marginalized, powerless, subject to the life and death whims of white men with power, whether Russian or American. What stirred me most was how the unity of those marginalized folks overcame the power of the oppressors. The Shape of Water is a truly subversive and quite wonderful film, and one I will see again. I thought Frances McDormand had a lock on awards for Three Billboards, but Sally Hawkins' wordless amazing performance, I suspect, blows away any competition.

Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

David, you will still be screaming three years from now when Kim Jung Yung has been emasculated and rendered moot.

You believe 3 things that are just simply not true.

1) That economic growth and prosperity for the poor will collapse this year when in fact they are going to do better than any time during the last 8 years in the coming years. But, you are right about one thing, even though the poor do much better than in the last 8 years, the skilled rich will, by now growing their companies and creating jobs, do much better than all of us. Great, I don't begrudge them a bit, they work 24 hours a day.

2) That the temperature of the world's climate is going to increase every year for the next 8 years. Isn't going to happen unless NOAA keeps doctoring each year's records to be able to declare the next year's temperate an "all-time" record.

3) That education outcomes will go down over the next 8 years. Not going to happen. Watch NAEP, which went down under Obama, will now go up under Trump.

Keep screaming. But, we will be keeping score. Jobs report out tomorrow, first big post-tax-cut report.
