Re: “A UA Prof Chimes In on the 'Freedom Center'

I fail to see why some intellectual diversity in University social science departments can possibly be a bad thing, no matter where the funding come from. AEI asserts that 18% of social science professors are self-identified Marxists, nation wide. See https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=7678. Surely there's room for some milquetoast libertarians to balance things out.

Re: “The Koch Brothers Are Spending Money To Make Arizona's Education More To Their Liking

That sounds a lot like the conservative frauds they call Trump and his senseless climate change denying supporters, you know, people such as Wayne Olson.

Way to go Wayne! Now that Ratt and Wrong, Again haven't posted using those names for quite some time...are you vying for their lowly troll status?

It seems to me that you are definitely picking up that mantle. Too bad that you aren't investing your free time more wisely.

Re: “Vintage Vinyl

Nice to see someone in contact with George. He joined The Poppies a couple of months before I left.A superb bassist, just great to work with.Later on Paul Cannella replaced me,and sometime after that Richard Gomez replaced keyboardist Steve Solomon. It's a bit off topic, but Poppies drummer Rusty Terry (RIP) told us right around then that he would have been in the Larry Cox accident if he hadn't declined the job that Rick Mellinger eventually took.

Best band of my teenage years locally. They were well on their way until the fatal accident that took the life of my dear friend Larry Cox.

Re: “Vintage Vinyl

I remember George (Taco) Miraval. Very nice guy. Remember playing football at a park in the center of town. He gave me a hard time for not making a tackle that I should have made. He was right, I should have. Oh, well. Still remember him fondly. He was really was a nice guy.

Re: “State Grades Are All About the A's and F's

Response to Francis
"....Most education leaders know you have to protect your teachers from unhealthy feedback and focus on human perception of quality. Good teachers and good principals know the relative performance of all their teachers...." Completely Meaningless!!!

Completely Meaningless? Perhaps, but perhaps not. Nationwide, 24% of parents rate their child's school quality an "A" (Gallup poll, Aug 2015)

But, some schools have over 80% of their parents giving them an "A" rating and others are at zero.
The parent rating covers reading and math but also a thousand other things.

Less than 30% of Tucson Unified parents gave them an "A" rating last I looked. 75% of Chandler Unified parents gave them an "A" rating.

There is a difference. Maybe that's why Chandler's bond election passed 64% to 36% and Tucson Unified's failed by 59 to 41%.

Chandler doesn't sacrifice anything on academic gains by holding themselves accountable on parent measures, in fact, they gain. Their academic gains are well above the 50th percentile.

The parent measure also offers a different path to improving academic gains, a partnership with parents, not just looking at students like milk cows.

Plus it creates an overall healthier environment for schools where you value all teachers, history, science, PE, the arts and all subjects equally.

I know both sides of this equation. I was the legislator who brought letter grades and performance pay to Arizona.

Re: “The Saga of Three Points

I live in Three Points. It's a town of very open and friendly people. People socialize, ride their horses down the roads, their 4 wheelers, their 4x4's. They hunt, they drink beer, they enjoy their days. It's not as bad as this article makes it sound.

Re: “Get It While You Can

Get it while you can-and take as much as you can. Go ahead it's free. Or at least it's somebody elses money so why worry? All you have to do is stay on the plantation and vote for those candidates that promise the most freebies.

Meanwhile those of us barely above the line will be drug down under the line as we do not qualify for anything except higher rates and higher deductibles. All for one and one for all, really isn't true with liberal progressive policies.

Has anybody even tried to figure out why care is so expensive and what we can actually do to lower those costs? It starts at your doctor's office and then moves to the hospitals. Are we subsidizing health care for illegals?

You can't fix this mess without understanding it. Too many political careers at stake. And that shouldn't be.

Re: “Minor Refugees, Major Challenges

I agree with blsap - these people are illegal economic migrants, and experiencing high levels of street crime does not make you a refugee. A true refugee would stop at the first safe country of refuge, as required under international law. That would be Belize, or Costa Rica, or Mexico. Indeed, the most efficient way for U.S. taxpayers to help refugees is to fund safe housing for them in their regions of origin.

Student/School Scores on AzMerit will indicate the Effectiveness of the Schools/Districts Academic / Instructional Programs, so that, if necessary, remedial action can be taken; that Students are being taught properly and/or effectively learning the required body of information per Subject Area so as to achieve their Career Goals.

Standard Testing (AzMerit) = Teacher/School/District Accountability!!!

Re: “Democrats Luckier Than Education in 2017 City-Wide Elections

Watson may have had a better chance if the GOP hadn't abandoned him. This is a perfect example of why the GOP can't put Republicans in city offices-they either can't find candidates (see Ward 5), put forward Fox News talking point ditto heads (Ward 6), or abandon moderate politicians that actually may win (Ward 6). The last few GOP candidates to win a Mayor or Council seat-Walkup, Rondstat, Dunbar and before that Murphy and Laos. All moderates. And VietnamVet2-its Marx, Karl (with a K) Marx. I learned that during my indoctrination at a TUSD school.

Brain washing innocent children to believe the garbage Liberals spout out everyday in every school in Tucson is not defined as education; its more more Marks indoctrination. Sort of like the "if you like your doctor you can keep it" or Steve Kozachik is a really nice liar, I mean guy.

Here ya go...
. Guys wear skinny jeans for the same reason they wear cowboy hats: they are trendy in certain neighborhoods where they live. Remember Lew Murphy and his Guayabera shirt?

2. Jock think is an oxymoron.

3. The women who voted for trump are either well past their child bearing years or are what they think men want them to do.

4. it's 'Merica dang it.

5. Poor folks cannot afford pre-school. If your spouse is a full blown "house wife" in this day and age, they're either retired, or it is 1950.

6. Even Zachary Taylor knew better: "I hope some compromise will be entered into between the two parties, slavery & antislavery, which will have the effect of allaying violent passions on both sides."

7. Happy Birthday. Keep asking questions.

Re: “Minor Refugees, Major Challenges

I must've missed the news about refugee camps in central America. They are not fleeing violence, they are fleeing poverty and coming here illegally because they know there is a good chance they will receive amnesty and jobs.
